Pokémon game modes

Compare Relaxed, Classic, and Nuzlocke, understand their rules, and see how completely their saves are isolated.

General principle

The game mode defines the rules applied to a Pokémon save. Luméo completely separates progression so one mode can never modify another profile's team, Box, items, economy, or statistics.

This separation also applies between Discord servers. Two saves using the same mode but created on different communities remain independent.

Relaxed mode

Relaxed mode focuses on a more accessible and less punishing progression. It is suited to members who want to discover Pokémon features, complete their collection, and try systems without all the constraints of the main adventure.

Its adjustments include:

  • more flexible progression;
  • rewards adapted to the mode;
  • reusable TMs instead of consumable ones;
  • a save completely separate from Classic and Nuzlocke.

Available features are still determined by the server configuration.

Classic mode

Classic mode is Luméo's main adventure. It includes, among other things:

  • catches and team management;
  • battles against Trainers and other players;
  • levels, moves, Abilities, and items;
  • economy, trades, Day Care, and auctions;
  • quests, qualifiers, Masters, tournaments, and the Hall of Fame.

It keeps the general progression rules without Nuzlocke's permanent fainting.

Nuzlocke mode

Nuzlocke uses a separate profile and stronger confirmations. Its main rules include:

  • a starter compatible with the mode's rules;
  • one controlled encounter per virtual area;
  • no reroll after an encounter has been determined;
  • permanent loss of Pokémon that faint under the mode's rules;
  • a journal that tracks important events;
  • strict isolation of healing, items, teams, and statistics.

Some decisions are irreversible. Always read Luméo's summary before confirming a sensitive action.

Mode availability

The server owner chooses which modes are available to the community. A disabled mode must not be selectable for a new save.

Administration tools also include dedicated safeguards so an action performed on one profile cannot affect another mode.

Changing modes

Changing modes does not convert an existing save. You must select or create the corresponding profile when that option is allowed.

Before any action, verify:

  • the active server;
  • the mode displayed in the interface;
  • the currently selected save;
  • any special rules indicated by Luméo.

Which mode should you choose?

  • Choose Relaxed to discover the module at a comfortable pace.
  • Choose Classic to follow Luméo's full intended adventure.
  • Choose Nuzlocke only if you accept its restrictions and permanent consequences.

The best mode is the one whose rules actually match how you want to play, not simply the one that looks fastest when creating a profile.
